A couple weeks ago I hosted an essential oils open house.  My upline for Young Living, Dawn, is an amazing resource and is so giving.  For the open house we had a ZYTO scan available and some “make and take” goodies.  Now, I not only have some Thieves All Purpose Cleaner (I hate cleaning, but LOVE this stuff! Sometimes I clean just so I can smell it in the house the rest of the day!) but I now have some homemade baby wipes.

Baby Wipes

1/2 gallon glass jar, with a lid

1/2 roll paper towel (I shove my whole stack of cloth wipes [a friend made mine for me] in there instead!)

1 TBSP Dr Bronner’s Unscendted Baby-Mild Soap

1 1/2 – 2 cups water

8-10 drops essential oil (ideas: Lavender [comes in the premium starter kit], Cedarwood, Gentle Baby)

What I love about these new wipes is that it makes my diaper changing process quicker as my cloth wipes are already wet, soaped up, and soothing!  Before I was using wetting my dry flannel wipes with a spray bottle, then adding a drop or two of Dr Bronner’s lavender soap on each wipe and topping Maisy off with a dab of coconut oil and Gentle Baby.  Now all I need is my jar of ready made wipes and I’m good to go!  I have noticed that the Gentle Baby worked better for us than the lavender.  She had a perfectly silky smooth, red and rash free, bum the whole time I utilized that jar of essential oils infused wipes.  Lavender is still wonderful but she does get a little red here and there with our current lavender infused batch of wipes.

For the worst butt days, aka rashy days, we go for the Animal Scents Ointment and she’s good as new!

I just love that my baby girl has a clean and rash free bum via thoroughly chemical free means.  I love my oils!

Oils for Anger and PMS

A Little Drops of Sunshine post.

11393052_10204459929999599_105148388758603953_n I like to be transparent.  So here we go. A couple weeks ago I entered that time of the month when I become a spitting volcano, threatening to fully erupt into a seething cascade of raised voice negativity at any given moment.  My tolerance for imperfect behavior is approximately zero during this time so my imperfect child, dogs, and husband (as everyone is imperfect but these being the primary people I come in contact with each day) are at the highest risk for getting scalded by my volcanic fury.  I try to reset myself by getting outside or doing some yoga and it works to calm me back down until the next minor flaw in my day crosses me.  Last week I turned to oils and I’m happy to report that I did finally find a concoction from the oils I had on hand, my premium starter kit, that could get the job done. Tid bit:  Did you know anger is stored in the liver?  Oils targeted to reduce anger are typically targeted to balance and detox the liver.  Cool huh? MY NEW GO-TO ANGER/PMS OILS Lavender – known for it’s calming qualities.  It’s at the top of the reference guide’s list for subduing anger.  When using for mood rub a drop or two over your liver and/or diffuse. Citrus Fresh – known for it’s uplifting and focusing qualities, but also good for digestion.  Use this oil if you need a pick me up and/or need to focus your brains better on the task at hand (said to be good for kids with ADD or otherwise inattentive children during their studies).  When using for uplifting and focus, diffuse.  When using for digestion I like to put a couple drops in my water at the beginning of the day. Joy – known for it’s mood boosting and circulation qualities.  Use this oil if you need to put that skip back in your step or if you extremities are chilly.  When using for mood, rub a drop over your heart, rub a couple of drops onto the bottoms of your feet, and diffuse.  When using for circulation apply to the area of your body that is feeling chilled or asleep. WHAT DID I DO? I diffused 2-3 drop of each lavender, Citrus Fresh and Joy at the same time.  I rubbed Joy over my heart and on my feet.  And I started taking 1-2oz Ningxia Red twice daily (an antioxidant supplement by Young Living that boasts of improving energy and supporting the liver) Should have gone for the lavender on my liver but I didn’t get around to looking up where that was yet… next time 😉 Have a happy, anger-free day!

Oils for Scars

A Little Drops of Sunshine post.

SCARS.

Maisy had a terrible diaper rash a couple of months back.  I thought the rash lingered still but after a few more days of observation realized it was actually a “scar” on her bum.  I felt even more terrible about the terrible state of her diaper rash and that it was actually so bad as to mar her perfect skin.  Thanks to essential oils I did not remain in sorrow!  Instead, I started applying lavender, neat, to the damaged areas every diaper change that I remembered to do so (so several times a day).  A week or so later and I am overjoyed to report the wounds are now barely visible!  A few more days of lavender and she’ll be good as new 🙂

I use lavender as a part of my night face lotion every day (rub a little raw shea butter together with 3-4 drops of lavender).  I love it because it heals my face overnight from scabs or redness obtained from zits, the sun or any other daily wounds and I wake up with a radiant (though perhaps otherwise groggy) complexion.

Lavender is also great for stretch marks.

SUNBURN.

My brother used lavender on sunburn and it cleared right up.  I used some on a sunburn I got yesterday and it’s gone today, settled into a nice tan instead.

IN THE END, if these don’t work for you I have plenty more ideas and options where these came from!  First step is to GET YOUR KIT, then I will meet with you (near: in person; far: Skype or Google Hangouts) to get you started using them for whatever ails you, and I send you off with a handy dandy handbook and some other awesome materials! Happy sunburn season everyone!  May you find some respite with your bottle of Young Living lavender essential oil  🙂
